Asian Draw for Brazil 2014 Brings Hope to the Teams

The Asian teams have their winning fire re-kindled by the drawing of slots for the two Asian preliminary elimination rounds. The 16 lowest ranking teams will face off each other in Round 1 with the eight winners moving on to Round 2 to face the remaining 22 teams. The top five teams of the Asian confederation will automatically enter Round 3.

Round 1 will give the lesser known teams to shine and show what they got. Fresh from their qualifying success for the 2012 Asian Football Confederation, the Philippine team is ready to take on Ski Lanka. “It is not a bad draw for us,” Philippines coach Michael Weiss told FIFA.com. “Sri Lanka represents a force in south Asia but we should have a good chance against them.” Should the Philippines team Azkals win over Ski Lanka, they will face ten-time Gulf champions and 1982 FIFA World Cup participant Kuwait. “If we have all our top players available with the preparation going smoothly, we have a 30 per cent chance against them,” Weiss said. “At least we will give them a hard time.”

The results of the draw gave interesting team match ups such as the match of United Arab Emirates with India. Round 2 matches also offers interesting matches like the match between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan and Syria.
